One of our very humble and beloved forecourt attendants, Jerry Moeti, was run over by a customer on our forecourt and sustained multiple serious injuries on 15 January 2020. When I ran out Jerry was lying unconscious underneath the car with blood all over. We had to jack up the car and I feared for the worst. Many of the customers assisted by jacking up the car, calling the ambulance and paramedics. We waited about 25 minutes for the ambulance and paramedics to arrive. Jerry was rushed to the Krugersdorp Private hospital. I accompanied them to the hospital and after they did a full scan, he was transferred to the intensive care. I contacted his wife and family regarding the incident and organized transport for them from the township in Randfontein to the hospital. When I saw his wife she started crying and so I became emotional too. I waited at the hospital to speak to the doctor who examined him. Jerry had a huge wound on the side of his face and sustained multiple face fractures. After 3 days in the intensive care, Jerry was transferred to the Flora Life hospital in Roodepoort, where he underwent surgery. I made sure that it was possible for his family to visit him by providing transport and transport money. We immediately started a fund raising project (donation box) on the forecourt to assist the family. Jerry has been working at Kenneth Motors since 2013 and is very popular with our customers, because of his friendly and humble personality. Our customers donated close to R3000.00. Jerry was discharged from Flora Life hospital after 4 days. to recover at home. I contacted Jerry on a daily basis, took him to hospital for various appointments and kept up to date regarding his condition and recovery. He recovered slowly but surely. After three and a half months he was fully recovered and could return to work. We put up welcoming
posters on the window and in shop for everyone to see that Jerry is back. On the day of his return we had a staff gathering with welcoming speeches and handed him a hamper. For us it was very emotional to have Jerry back in the family of Kenneth Motors. The first thing that stood out for me was how our customers immediately assisted on the day of the accident. I was also very impressed with the professional service from the paramedics and ambulance staff on the day of the accident. The treatment Jerry received from the doctors and staff at both hospitals gives me great hope. Every day customers were enquiring regarding the condition of Jerry and I was amazed how many people still care and how much goodwill there still is in our society. – Mr. Andre Keyser, Kenneth Motors
